Past Chairman: Alan Garratt It is difficult now to remember a time when Alan was not Chairman of the Branch. He was elected when the Branch needed younger volunteers to take on the considerable administrative burden that the older Members could no longer manage. Alan volunteered for the job without hesitation. He makes light of the commitment and claims that he used to give his elder brother Bob a lift to the meetings anyway. It as been a lot more than that. Alan finally retired from his post in 2006. However, he continues to be actively involved with the Branch and is an invaluable friend Alan was called up for National Service after the war. He himself served with pride and distinction in the RAF. Alan has brought these same personal qualities to Chairmanship of the Branch, demanding of himself the same high standards that he expects of all those who deal with the veterans he represents. A Pen Portrait of Alan appears here
