Description & Review |
| War Without Hate | John Bierman & Colin Smith | The authors bothered to speak with desert veterans, including the redoubtable Sam Bradshaw, our former National Chairman and friend. An excellent account. |
| El Alamein | Stephen Bungay | Another excellent read. Again an author who bothered finding men who were there. |
| A Green Hill Far Away | Fred Hirst | A superb book by one of our own. Handy reading if you ever plan to jump from a train, hike through the Appenines without kit or seek shelter with the enemy during an air raid. |
| Battalion | Alastair Borthwick | An account of the Gordon Highlanders in North Africa and Europe that is widely regarded as one of the best written accounts of front line fighting to emerge from the war. |
| Take these Men | Cyril Joly | We were a citizen army and the title of Cyril Joly's book acknowledges this. He has a style that is a bit dated now but it reflects the way we were then (particularly the officers). A truthful and poignant account of tanks in the desert war. |
| Poems from the Desert | Eighth Army Servicemen | A striking anthology of poems written by servicemen, published during the war. |
| Poems from Italy | Eighth Army Servicemen | More poems published during the war. |
| Tomorrow to be Brave | Susan Travers | A true story of an adventurous lady, who ended up with the Free French Forces at Bir Hacheim. |
