Links It is impossible to list all of the sites that are of interest to our Members. The 1st XI listing below provides links to sites that you may not have heard of or thought to visit before. In our opinion, all of these sites are well designed and have interesting content, relevant to our Association. We emphasize that they are representative choices. It would have been easy to list eleven military charities alone - but then you might not scroll down to look at the others. Obviously, the internet contains many thousands more websites that are of interest or utility to our Members. In addition to our 1st XI, we therefore include many other honourable mentions who are just as worthy. If you have seen an unlisted website that you think would be of interest, please send us an e-mail. |

1st XI |
|
| War Widows Association | They have a simple and informative site. Please do support them. |
| Commonwealth War Graves Commission | The preparation of this site was a vast undertaking. It allows visitors to retrieve details of any war grave or memorial in the Commission's care. There are 1.7 million names listed. Try typing your surname in. |
| Royal British Legion | An informative and well organized site about the worthwhile work of the Royal British Legion. |
| Veterans Agency | The Government Agency tasked with looking after Veterans. It is a good source of information, well laid out. |
| Royal Hospital Chelsea | In terms of layout and technical presentation, this is probably the best website for ex-servicemen that we have seen. No doubt the residents must have written it... Anyone got spare tickets for the Cup Final? |
| Imperial War Museum North | It's on our doorstep. The website has links to samples of their online audio and document collection that are well worth investigation (Click on "IWM Collections"). |
| Age Concern | An outstanding and informative site for anyone intending to get old. One day you might need them too. Bookmark it now. |
| Afrika Korps Veterans | The Afrika Korps fought hard but without a pattern of atrocity. In the years since the war, they made real efforts to achieve reconciliation with the Eighth Army Veterans Association and eventually became firm friends. Their website is in German but can be navigated with common sense and a bit of effort. Acknowledge them by taking a look. |
| St Dunstans | St Dunstans provides care for blinded ex-servicemen and women. Its main residential centre is at Ovingdean, on the South Coast. They do wonderful work with those in their care. We also recommend the autobiography of one of their better known residents, Bill Griffiths, who lost both hands, as well as his sight, during Japanese captivity. |
| Normandy Veterans Association - Carlisle Branch | A very impressive veterans' website; informative with plenty of good photographs (we think the best ones were taken in the pub after Remembrance Sunday 2005). The NVA are an organized bunch and several other of their branches also have websites worth looking at. You can access these from the Carlisle Branch links page. |
| PPA | A special forces unit that served with distinction in the desert and Italy. The veterans are supported by younger volunteers, some of whom also have an interest in running wartime vehicles. The website is excellent and includes many photographs of the veterans themselves, looking remarkably fit and dangerous. |

Other Links of Interest to Ex-Services |
|
| Royal Star & Garter | A charity that cares with dignity for seriously injured ex-servicemen. |
| Not Forgotten Association | A charity that tries to put a little pride back into the lives of disabled ex-servicemen. |
| Gurkha Welfare Trust | If there was a minute's silence for every Gurkha casualty from World War 2 alone, we would have to keep quiet for two weeks. |
| BLESMA | An association for limbless ex-servicemen, still active in an alarming range of dangerous sports. |
| Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society | Active and experienced psychiatric care for ex-services. |
| Leonard Cheshire | Leonard Cheshire is the UK's leading provider of disability support services, and campaigns on the rights of disabled people. Its founder, Leonard Cheshire VC, started out providing charitable support to ex-servicemen and women. |
| North Irish Horse | A wonderful site, written by a veteran, Arthur Chester. The NIH was one of the many formidable one-offs of the British Regimental System. They saw fierce action throughout North Africa and Italy. Mick Maguire QC. MC. MM., a leading barrister on the Northern Circuit right until his death in 2001, was a member. |
| 41st (Oldham) Royal Tank Regiment | One of the tank regiments in 24th Armoured Brigade, which formed the armoured punch at El Alamein. They ran straight into prepared German 88mm Anti Tank positions and were shot to pieces. |
| Normandy Veterans Association Stockport | A good website with photos, written for a mob based just down the road. Its been sixty years and they still haven't bought us a pint (only joking, lads!) but they are well worth a look. |

Good Utility Links |
|
| BBC News | Who else for news? The best site on the internet. |
| Wikipedia | This is an open source encyclopaedia, meaning that members of the public write it and it is free. If this sounds an unpromising basis for factual accuracy and academic consensus, it manages to confound expectation. It is breathtaking in scope. A really good site to visit. |
| Find anything. | |
| Ask Jeeves | Type in your query and it is meant to point you towards the answer. There are disappointing limitations; for example, it is useless at lottery number prediction. For that you'll just have to wait until the Ask Fred service is fully operational. |
